In Memory of Angela

2 Dec

I was saddened to hear about the death of Angela Peterson early Sunday morning. She was killed by an 18 year old drunk driver who had almost twice the legal blood alcohol level.

I didn’t know Angela very well, we had Anthropology classes together and she was my study buddy. Sometimes we’d walk from the CBC back to Wright Hall together, talking about everything from Japanese Sub-cultures to Metallica. She was always a bright and happy person, a real pleasure to be around. Angela always led class discussions, and after class she would take pity and explain everything to me. She was there for me, right before our linguistics final, when I was trying to pull it together for the final just after my boyfriend had broken up with me.

I hadn’t kept in touch with her after graduation, but when I heard that she had passed my heart sunk. I sincerely wish that I could have gotten to know her better. She truly was a bright light in this world and she will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.

This is the second drunk driving fatality that hit close to home this week. People are reckless with not only their own lives but the lives of others. Don’t be selfish and drive while impaired. Don’t be lazy and not organize a Designated Driver. Take care of yourself and others, don’t let another tragedy like this one happen.

We love you Angie. ❤
